Configuring your data or fax software

Once properly connected and configured, your PC will 
recognize your phone as an ext ernal fax/modem. However, 
your fax or dat a soft ware may already be configured to use 
the existing PCMCIA or int ernal modem.

Before you can use your phone t o send and receive dat a 
or faxes, you must  reconfigure your fax or dat a soft ware 
so t hat  it  uses your phone rat her t han your exist ing 
modem. You may consider creat ing a separat e set  of 
dialing propert ies t o use when your phone is connect ed, 
rat her t han changing any exist ing set t ings.

Please refer t o t he document at ion or online help files for 
your dat a or fax applicat ion when creat ing new dialing 
configurat ions, or modifying exist ing set t ings.

To start a data or fax call

Not e: The rest rict  calls feat ure may affect  any dat a/fax calls you 
at t empt . If you experience problems, check your call rest rict ions. 
See page 57 f or det ails.

Init iat e a dat a or fax call using your dat a or fax 
soft ware configured for your phone.

When t rying t o connect  t o t he net work, t he phone 
displays Connecting... Once connect ed, t he t ext  
Dat a call (or Fax call) remains on t he display for t he 
durat ion of t he dat a or fax call.

Terminat e t he dat a call from your dat a soft ware; fax 
calls t ypically t erminat e aut omat ically.

Not e:  Avoid t erminat ing a call by pressing your phone’s 

 key. 

This may cause your dat a or f ax applicat ion t o t emporarily lock up 
and could cause loss of dat a.

Not e:  Dat a or f ax calls cannot  be init iat ed using your phone’s 
keypad. All dat a and fax calls must  be init iat ed using t he dat a or 
fax sof t ware.
