Safety and Security

Responsibility

You are responsible for your GSM mobile phone. To avoid careless handling of the phone
that may result in damage to it, and prevent unauthorised use that could cause harm, please
read, follow, and explain the following instructions presented here to anyone borrowing
your phone.

• Keep your phone in a safe place and out of any unauthorised person’s reach.

• Avoid writing down your PIN code; it is should be memorised.

• If you are going to leave your phone unused for a length of time, switch it off.

• Use and adapt the security menu to your own requirements, to change the security code

after purchase, and activate call restriction options; see page 35.

Children

Your cellular phone and its accessories are not toys, and should be kept in a safe place out
of small children’s reach. Children may hurt themselves or others and may damage the
phone.

Respect of local laws and regulations

Cellular phones can interfere with their environment, and consequently safety rules and
regulations have been adopted. Regulations concerning vehicles and aircraft are particularly
stringent, and you should enquire about local legislation when you acquire a cellular phone.
If you wish to use your phone while travelling, you should be aware of what local regula-
tions apply in the institution, state or country you are visiting. Moreover, you should not
switch your GSM phone on in areas where no GSM network is available.

Use while driving

Using your phone and driving at the same time can be dangerous as it distracts from your
attention and concentration; your full attention should be given to driving. In the case you
should need to be able to safely phone from within your car while driving you should :

• Check with your car manufacturer to be sure that the electronic equipment installed in

your car will not be affected by the radio energy emitted by your phone.

• Have a hands free car kit installed in your vehicle, specifically designed for that purpose.

• Pull off the road and park before using the phone whenever possible.

• Respect local regulations in countries where you drive and use your cellular phone. (ex.

the use of an alarm system to activate a vehicle’s headlights or horn to indicate an inco-
ming call is prohibited on public roads in some countries). Check local regulations.

Therefore avoid using your phone while driving , except in the case of and emergency, and
when absolutely necessary.
