 Spray extraction / vacuuming liquids

   Information

Caution!

  Petrol,  thinner,  heating  oil  etc.  can  form  explosive 

vapours and mixtures when swirled up together with suction air.

c 

Acetone,  acids  and  solvents  can  corrode  the  materials  in  use  on 

the appliance. Cleaning water or dirty water can be vacuumed up 

with out any problems.

c

  Following  the  vacuuming  of  liquids  or  spray  extraction,  clean  the 

dirty water tank and all parts used and allow these to dry.

c

Never  perform  spray  extraction  or  vacuum  liquids 

without the waste water tank.

c

  Your  THOMAS  TWIN  is  not  suitable  for  vacuuming  up  larger 

quantities of liquids from containers or pools.

c

Caution! 

Never operate the pump without any liquids.

c

  Following wet cleaning, always empty the appliance and clean it. 

Dirty water and damp parts will encourage the breeding of bacte-

ria and mould (see cleaning and care).

Spray extraction

Before cleaning carpets

c 

Make sure that any surfaces you intend to wet-clean are also suit-

able for this, e.g. do not wet clean any fragile, hand-woven or non 

colour-fast carpets.

  To check this, apply some cleaning agent to a white cloth and rub 

this on an area of the carpet that is not immediately visible. If there 

are no traces of colour on the cloth, it is safe to assume the carpet 

or rug is colour-fast. 

  If it does, the carpet may not be spray extracted.
  In  cases  of  doubt,  contact  the  manufacturer  of  the  carpet  or  rug 

about this.

  If  the  carpet  has  already  been  shampooed,  using  the  THOMAS 

TWIN    for  the  first  time  may  result  in  a  greater  amount  of  foam 

being  generated  in  the  waste  water  container.  To  avoid  further 

formation of foam, place 1/2 a cup of vinegar in the dirty water 

container.

  If foam comes out of the air outlet, switch off the appliance immedi-

ately and empty the waste water tank.

  After initial intensive cleaning, you can prevent excessive foaming 

by using THOMAS cleaning concentrate, which contains a special 

anti-foaming agent.

  Avoid treading on the carpet as long as it is still damp.
  During and after cleaning, keep the room well ventilated for quick 

drying.

Cleaning carpets

–  Remove the filter bag system from the appliance.
–  Insert the anti-sloshing insert into the waste water tank.
–  Insert  the  anti-sloshing  insert  and  waste  water  tank  into  the  appli-

ance. Make sure that the wet filter (12a) is inserted.

–  Remove  the  clean  water  tank  for  filling  purposes  (pull  it  out 

upwards vertically) or simply fill it directly in the appliance, lifting 

up the lid of the clean water tank.

During  filling,  make  sure  that  no  dirt  enters  the 

clean  water  tank  so  as  not  to  impair  operation  of 

the sealing valve.

Using  cleaning  concentrate  and  water,  fill  it  up  as  far  as  the 

grab lug (max. 2.4 litres). 

For  carpet  cleaning  we  recommend 

THOMAS ProTex 

cleaning concentrate.

For application and dosage, see label of cleaning concentrate 

bottle.

Use tepid water (max. 30 °C).

Connect the suction hose and install the telescopic suction tube.

 Push shut-off valve (20b) into the mount (20a) on the tube bend, 

fasten the spray tube to the hose using the hose clips and insert 

into the quick coupling (8) on the appliance.

Install  the  carpet  spray  nozzle,  guide  the  spray  tube  with 

coupling  on  the  suction  tube  upwards,  attach  to  the  shut-off 

valve and lock by turning it. Fasten the spray tube to the suction 

tube using the two tube clips.

Pull the mains plug out of the appliance and connect it.

Switch  on  the  appliance.  Switch  on  the  pump.  The  indicator 

lamp lights up.

  Push the lever of the shut-off valve until the cleaning fluid leaks 

out  and  pull  the  nozzle  upright  on  the  carpet  over  the  carpet 

in a straight path. At the end of one stroke or when you to take 

a  break,  release  the  valve  lever  to  stop  the  spray  jet.  Once 

the  liquid  that  was  sprayed  on  has  been  sucked  up,  raise  the 

nozzle and commence a new stroke using a slight overlap. This 

will ensure the entire surface is treated one strip at a time.

If traces of the fluid still remain on the paths after cleaning, these 

areas can be vacuumed again without spraying.

Make sure that the mechanical suction force control (21) is fully 

closed.

With  heavily  soiled  spots,  you  can  apply  the  cleaning  fluid 

during forward motion of the carpet spray nozzle. You can also 

pretreat the carpet by only putting the pump into operation.

Take care not to distribute too much fluid since this may cause waves 

or  bumps  in  the  carpet  that  will  only  recede  after  a  lengthy  drying 

process.

 Spray the cleaning solution deep into the carpet, applying pressure

 Release the dirt and extract it from deep within the fibres

c

  Vacuum up the dirty water powerfully and straighten up the car-

pet pile again.
