Safely Remove Device From Your

Computer

Always e je ct a storage  drive  from your compute r be fore  physically disconne cting it. Your compute r must
pe rform filing and house ke e ping ope rations on the  drive  be fore  it is re move d. The re fore , if you unplug the
drive  without using the  ope rating syste m’s software , your file s can be come  corrupt or damage d.

Windows

Use  the  Safe ly Re move  tool to e je ct a de vice .

1.  Click the  Safe ly Re move  Hardware  icon in your Windows Syste m Tray to vie w the  de vice s you can

e je ct.

2.  If you don’t se e  the  Safe ly Re move  Hardware  icon, click the  Show hidde n icons arrow in the  syste m tray

to display all icons in the  notification are a.

3.  In the  list of de vice s, choose  the  de vice  you want to e je ct. Windows displays a notification whe n it is

safe  to re move  the  de vice .

4.  Disconne ct the  de vice  from the  compute r.

Mac

The re  are  se ve ral ways you can e je ct your de vice  from a Mac. Se e  be low for two options.

Eject via Finder window

1.  Ope n a Finde r window.
2.  On the  side bar, go to De vice s and locate  the  drive  you want to e je ct. Click the  e je ct symbol to the  right

of the  drive  name .

3.  Once  the  de vice  disappe ars from the  side bar or, the  Finde r window close s, you can disconne ct the

inte rface  cable  from your Mac.

Eject via Desktop

1.  Se le ct the  de sktop icon for your de vice  and drag it to the  Trash.
2.  Whe n the  de vice  icon is no longe r visible  on your de sktop, you can physically disconne ct the  de vice

from your Mac.
